Giovanna M.R. Capozzi
My name is Giovanna M.R. Capozzi (maiden name Liggio). I am 33 years old and proud to be of Sicilian origin. My parents come from Corleone, Palermo. I teach high school French at William L. Mackenzie Institute in Toronto. I have a B.A in English and French and also obtained an Italian fluency certificate at York University. I write in English, Italian and French. I write poetry, prose and non-fiction (commentaries of society's ever changing "unchangeables"). I am writing an anthology of short stories based on one character who shares her experiences as an immigrant's daughter through her own voice and through observations of others. This anthology will emphasize the beauty of the Sicilian reality. I hope I succeed. I have not published any work. I won a contest in Abateggio, Abruzzi 2 years ago with a small collection of Italian poetry. I would like to become a well-known author in the future. My goal is to share the beauty of the Italian culture not only to my son (two and a half years old) but to the new generation of Italo-Canadians. We are more than just food and soccer. Our culture is rich of historical influences that makes us unique.
