In March 2012, the Association of Italian Canadian Writers (AICW), in partnership with Guernica Editions and Accenti Magazine, launched two books on the internment of Italian Canadians during the Second World War. The books, Behind Barbed Wire and Beyond Barbed Wire – one academic, and one creative – bring together essays, stories and creative writings on the subject of the internment. These collections offer a comprehensive and thought-provoking look at the events of 1940. The books were published in print and electronic format, with launches in five cities across Canada in March. The books were distributed free of charge to libraries, academic institutions, community organizations and individuals. The academic book is a co-publication with the Columbus Centre of Toronto.
